A new version of System Architect has been commercially released

PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT:

 System Architect® 11.4.11 Released

As a valued System Architect® customer, we want to let you know that a new version of System Architect has been commercially released. We continue to drive improvements to the product within themed areas to enable you to build and maintain a strategic, value-driven enterprise architecture.

System Architect 2024 – Version 11.4.11 provides the following enhancements:

Customer Journey Maps, Idea Hierarchy, & Project Context Diagrams
Customer Journey Map, Idea Hierarchy, and Project Context diagram types have been added to TOGAF 10 support.

Customer Journey maps are a visual representation of a customer's end-to-end journey with your organization, product, or service, and are being widely used to understand and brainstorm ideas for improvements and digital transformation.

The Idea Hierarchy diagram enables you to categorize ideas for improvement to the organization. Customer Journey Maps and the Idea Hierarchy diagram are interrelated with the Value Stream diagram type introduced with System Architect's prior version, 11.4.10.2.

The Project Context diagram enables you to model the hierarchy of Projects in an organization, the timeline of which can be specified in the Roadmap Marker diagram:
Modeling Enhancements for Frameworks: Enhancements to modeling include:
Drawing of implicit and explicit lines between instances is now supported in both System Architect and SA XT.
Improved presentation of an instance reference property to include the name of the Instance Of reference in a ListOf box.
You can now edit references in instances in SA XT.
The number of displayable properties on a symbol has been increased to 69.
UML 2.5 diagrams now show more line connection possibilities in the Help Me Pick A Line Type dialog in both System Architect and SA XT.
Analytics
Analytics have been improved so that there is knowledge of icons that should replace others, via the new Analytic Icon Set definition and Icon Set Scope - Edge and/or Alignment, properties of an analytic.
Usability of SA Diagramming
On representationally consistent diagrams supporting box-in-box behavior, removal of a node by using a Delete action and then choosing Remove will no longer clear the parent reference. This was causing users to mistakenly delete the parent references of definitions to their related definitions if they simply removed their symbols from a diagram (for example, Systems within Systems on a DoDAF 2 SV-1; Capabilities within Capabilities in a Capability Map). Users would then see ghost-buster symbols on other diagrams where these symbols were presented in box-in-box format. Now in System Architect, to delete and update the reference, use the Edit > Cut (or Ctrl+X) command, or drag the node to detach it from its parent. In SA XT, you must edit the references directly or use symbol movement to effect the change prior to deleting the symbol.
The functionality of the existing SA Explorer tree Copy context menu item has been expanded so that it is also available for diagrams. Copying a diagram is actually a diagram "Save as" operation, without having to open the diagram.
Previously, when you added a new symbol on a diagram and clicked on Choices, the filter would be set to the Name specified plus an asterisk "*". Now, the filter will be cleared and the full list of all available definitions will be presented.
Performance of SA Diagramming
The time to prepare the Draw menu for diagrams has been reduced, with information being cached when a diagram of a particular type and mode of operation has been opened.
Reference Properties Tab Enhancement
Enhancements have been made to the Reference Documents feature, available in every definition type. You may now provide a pseudonym for the file link, and also change the URL path for an item. When the URL has a pseudonym, it is that pseudonym that will be shown in the URL list. Clicking Open for a selected list item will open the actual URL.
Metamodel Diagram Enhancements
You may now use the automatically generated Metamodel diagram to find out what Definitions can be drawn on what Diagram Types. This is provided by the following new commands that can be run on a generated diagram:
Diagram->Symbol->Definition
Definition->Symbol
Symbol->Definition
Symbol->Diagram.
Metamodel creation can be restricted to direct relations only, thereby reducing the complexity of a generated metamodel diagram.
Explicit relationships are now included in Metamodel diagrams.
You may now initialize the metamodel creation dialog from selected symbols.
Metamodel Language (SAPROPS & USRPROPS)
A new grammar keyword has been implemented at the type level to indicate object names will be read-only. It is meant to prevent a user from changing an object name in a direct way. The unchangeable nature of the name will be enforced in all the property editors and the Explorer trees.
CSV Import Enhancement
A new import option – Apply renames when encountered – has been added to the CSV Import dialog. If this option is selected and the CSV file entry has a value in the GUID property, the import will attempt to find the definition using that GUID. If it finds it in the encyclopedia, it will compare the names. If they differ, it will treat that as a rename and proceed with it. After renaming the definition, it will then perform the update.
Improved Search
Search options have been extended. For more information, see Help topic 'Searching'.
SA Publisher Usability
Relocation of files: Due to the design choice by Microsoft that editable files no longer be stored and edited in the Program Files directory, the provided web files, templates, reports, stylesheets, and so on, used by SA Publisher have been moved to a new location in directory ProgramData. The default path for these files will now be: C:\ProgramData\UNICOM Systems\SA Publisher.
SA XT Dashboards
New Explorer Tree widget: A new widget type has been added to the SA XT Dashboard page – the Explorer Tree – which displays a tree UI for SA Definition and Diagrams similar to the System Architect Explorer. When creating the Explorer Tree widget, you can define which Diagram or Definition types to include in the tree for a customized list.
SA XT Diagramming
SA XT now supports editing of representationally consistent hierarchy diagrams.
SA XT now supports use of listof type property in hierarchy diagram.
SA XT Explorer
A new button – Create Instance – has been implemented at the top of the Explorer page. If a definition has been selected in the Explorer tree and the definition type is defined as instantiable, clicking on this button will create an instance of (per DoDAF2 methodology). The feature already exists in the SA Desktop application.
SA XT Query Builder (Reporting)
Results on same page: On the SA XT Query Builder page, previously when you submitted a query the report would open in a new tab or browser page. This was cumbersome if you wanted to make changes to the query and submit it again. Now when you submit a query, the results will load in a new section on the query builder page. There is also a button above the results that enables you to open the results in a new page to generate a URL you can share with other users.
References/Referenced By: The SA XT Query Builder page now includes these reference options in the References dropdown (matching functionality in the SA rich client):
References Diagram
References Symbols
References Definitions
Referenced By Diagrams
Referenced By Symbols
Referenced By Definitions
Date variables: New Date variables have been added to SA XT reporting that enable users to make queries based on the current date. These new variables use a special formatting so that SA XT recognizes them and processes the time period correctly.
Method Customization – Advanced: Enhancements have been made to the Advanced section of the Customize Method Support dialog, accessed by selecting Tools, Customize Method Support, Encyclopedia Configuration, and clicking the Advanced button. A number of diagrams are shown only if the supporting property set is active:
UML 2.5 diagrams are now shown only if the UML 2.5 property set is on. If the property is not on, the diagrams are turned off.
sysML diagrams are now shown only if the sysML 1.6 property set is on. If the property is not on, the diagrams are turned off.
The following diagrams require "Business Enterprise": "System Architecture", "System Area Map", "System Context", "System/Subsystem Structure", "Business Concept", "Flow", "Functional Hierarchy", "Process Hierarchy", "Network Concept", "Process Decomposition", "Relationship Map", "Organization Chart", and "Decision Chart". ("Network Concept" can also be turned on if the TOGAF framework is selected.).
Client Issues
A number of client issues are also fixed, as enumerated and described in the Release Notes.
